Some of my friends have been listening to the band Beirut for years now, but I just recently [and delightedly] became acquainted with them (thank you, Limewire!). And I can now say with confidence, their stuff is my official new homework music. Their sound is definitely interesting – some more music listeners with more conservative tastes would probably even call it weird. But trust me when I say there’s a lot more bizarre music out there than this blend of Eastern European traditional and Western pop. It is chill and relaxing, but offers great melodies and folky, ethnic-sounding beats that make their music truly unique and creates an interestingly romantic feel. My favorite Beirut song so far? “Nantes,” off of their 2007 album The Flying Club Cup.

Love the Urban Outfitters style but tired of seeing four girls everyday wearing the same Free People shirt? Then modcloth.com is for you! Modcloth is an awesome website that sells indie clothing at reasonable prices. Everything is unique and arsty – but this site isn’t well known enough that everyone will have those same paisely-print tights. They sell everything from dresses to jewelry to sunglasses and will keep you lookin’ fresh all year long.

Ever wondered what happens to a group of teenagers in Germany at the end of the 19th century when they start growing up but nobody tells them what the hell is going on with their bodies or the world around them? Maybe not, but that’s exactly what you find out with the visionary new[ish] musical Spring Awakening. With the most innovative staging I’ve ever seen in a musical and a kickass rock score, this musical turns out being way more relevent than anything else on stage today. Sadly, the show just closed on Broadway (Morgan Karr from Northwestern U. REPRESENT!), but is now touring the U.S. Click here to go the official website and see when it is coming to a city near YOU!
